The John James Foundation was established in 2006 by a group of Canberra medical specialists and owners of the John James Hospital. At that time a decision was made to lease the Hospital business to Calvary Private Healthcare Canberra. From 2006 to 2018 the Foundation retained ownership of the hospital land and buildings which form the John James Health Care Campus. The revenue generated through a long term lease with Calvary Private Healthcare was applied solely to further the objectives of the newly formed Foundation.
The foundations mission is to to become widely recognised as the premier charitable health organisation in the ACT. The Foundation actively pursues a partnership and collaborative approach in achieving its positive influence in Canberra and beyond.
The John James Foundation is a company limited by guarantee and a tax free not-for-profit charity. The Foundation has Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status.
The Foundation is a member based organisation and grateful for the ongoing support of a large number of Canberra based Medical Specialists who form the membership
The Foundation has approximately 160 Specialist Medical Practitioner Members and a Board of nine consisting of a majority of Medical Specialist Members. The John James Foundation has a small, dedicated staff, with an office in the Peter Yorke Building on the John James Healthcare Campus, Strickland Crescent, Deakin, ACT.
The John James Foundation is registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profit Commission (ACNC).
