The Foundation delivered a Community Infrastructure Project to the Cancer Council ACT by designing and constructing a new $1.5million purpose built Head Office in Deakin.
The Foundation delivered a Community Infrastructure Project to the Cancer Council ACT by designing and constructing a new $1.5million purpose built Head Office in Deakin.
In 2017 the John James Foundation identified the Cancer Council ACT as a Community Partner to undertake a $1.3million philanthropic Community Infrastructure Project to provide the Cancer Council ACT an opportunity to relocate its Head Office and services to a prominent and centralised location in Deakin.
The Partnership opportunity allowed for the Cancer Council to increase its community profile and to align its valuable services through co-location inthe John James Health Precinct including Calvary John James Private Hospital, John James Medical Centre and John James Specialist Centre.
The Foundation engaged DJAS architects to develop a functional brief to ensure the purpose built office facility would be contemporary and fit for purpose. The building required space for meeting external and internal stakeholders, a private retail wig room, fundraising team facilities, storage, combination of open plan and enclosed office space and an external garden area designed for meeting clients in a relaxing environment.
Once the design was complete, the Foundation engaged the reputable Shaw Building Group to complete deconstruction of the existing fit-out and then rebirth the building under a Design and Construct Contract to deliver the outstanding office facility that stands today.
Following deconstruction of the existing fit-out, the design called for the introduction of increased natural light and connection to the outdoors. The western masonry façade was significantly opened to include continuous energy efficient glazing, 50% transparent external perforated metal shading and placement of contemporary architectural 305 longline monument cladding.
The internal fit-out was complemented with quality furniture including automatically adjustable sit/stand desks, galley style kitchen and end of trip facilities, a modern requirement for quality office buildings.
The value of the project exceeds the project cost. Contribution from the trades, Shaw Building Group and supply chain stakeholders enabled increased value to be added to the project.
