About the Collaboration

The Canberra Foundations Collaborative is a partnership between local community foundations: Hands Across Canberra (which administers the Chief Minister’s Charitable Fund), the Snow Foundation, and the John James Foundation. The Aspen Foundation also supports the collaboration. Each year the Foundations run a major grant round in Autumn and collaborate, share knowledge and co-fund.

In 2022, the collaborative piloted a major shared grant round to simplify the application process for organisations who already have limited resources for grant writing. Following the success of the inaugural joint round, the collaborative ran a second major grant round in 2023 resulting in funding for 57 separate projects, covering a wide range of sectors and addressing critical social issues, valued at almost $1.3 million.

2024 marks the third year of running a collaborative grant round with Expressions of Interest now closed.

This collaborative approach to philanthropic grant making provides a shared understanding of the areas of greatest need in our community.

Each partner foundation considers and funds projects in their specific focal areas which complement each other and are noted here:
